The 1993 AFL Season was 97th edition of elite Australian rules football and the seventh season under the leagues interstate expansion, but the fourth to be officially named the Australian Football League (AFL) The season commenced on the Friday the 26th of March and concluded on the 25th of September.


Overview[]

The pre-season cup was won by Essendon over Richmond.

There were a number of coaching changes. Denis Pagan replaced Wayne Schimmelbusch as North Melbourne coach. John Northey became the new Richmond coach, Neil Balme took his place as Melbourne coach. Ron Barassi became coach of Sydney.

Hawthorn and St Kilda moved to Waverley Park and Brisbane moved to the GABBA.


North went from a lowly 12th to finish the 3rd in 1993. Footscray dropped from 2nd to 9th. Essendon went from missing the finals to the premiers.
