Overview[]

As a part of a planned expansion, Geelong and North Melbourne were added into the competition, North Melbourne were set to also focus as a Tasmanian franchise recruiting players and playing games in the region. As a result the format of the league was shifted.

The league was split into two conferences of five teams. Each team would play each team within their conference once as well as 3 cross over games. The seeding was decided upon the position the team placed in to 2018 season. The finals now included a preliminary round in which the top two team from each group would face off (1A vs 2B).
