The 2021 AFLW season is the fifth season of the elite women's Australian Rules competition. The season featured 14 teams each associated with a current AFL team. The season commenced on the 28th of January and finished on the 17th of April.

Overview[]

The AFL removed the conference system and implemented a single-ladder format. However, maintained the 9-week regular season and the 3-week finals with the top 6 teams. For the first time, the league was restricted to an unreleased fixture that was disclosed at various stages of the season. This was due to the individual states having seperate COVID procedures which restricted travel.

In terms of team performance, the Adelaide Crows experienced a much better season that previous finishing as runners-up. North Melbourne disappointed despite a strong inaugural campaign, Carlton and GWS also experienced had drop-offs in quality.
